USB Condom protects your devices from nasty ports

Devices such as tablets and smartphones use a USB port to do the double duty of charging and transferring data. That means if you plug your device into a public outlet or an unfamiliar computer in order to charge it, you’re at some risk for getting juice-jacked. That is, someone could steal your data.

The folks at Int3.cc have a solution. They call it the USB condom and it’s designed to stop the unwanted flow of data from your device to the questionable outlet or computer. The condom is not what you think. Instead it’s a circuit board that plugs into your device’s USB port and keeps the power pins in the plug open, while blocking the data pins. With the USB condom between your device and the anonymous plug, you can supposedly plug in with peace of mind.
A price has not yet been set for the dongle, but if you’re interested in practicing safe charging, check back in.
